Owensboro’s new airport director, Oscar W. Bravo, said it didn’t take very long for him to figure out why Owensboro could only get a few flights per week. “Basically, we just need to go into the settings and enable flight mode” Bravo said.
He says when you get a new airport, you’ve got to get everything set up…enable the location services, get your security configured properly, and most importantly, enable flight mode.
The setting wasn’t lost on everyone, Pontius, a commerical airline pilot, told Enduring Owensboro he knew for years that Owensboro’s airplane mode was off and tried to convince the board to turn it on, but ultimately gave up due to pressure from the opposition.
Bravo expects Owensboro’s airport to get a lot of new flights once the setting is changed.
As far as when the setting will get changed, Bravo said he’ll have to wait until his teenaged nephew comes in to visit. “Kids are so fly with these things, they just wing it.”
