Mary J. Mota, Regional Spokeswoman for the Drug Overreach Agency (DOA), tells Enduring Owensboro that agents were cracking down on illegal drug use in Daviess County when a sting went awry.
While attempting to locate potential dealers in the area, an agent located a social media account for Grass Bud advertising an opportunity to “take care of all of your grass needs.”
Their private message conversation is below.
Agent — “You sell any good weed?”
Grass Bud — “Do you mean killer?”
Agent — “Nothing too serious like that. Really just interested in buying as much weed as you can sell me tonight. Cash money.”
Grass Bud — “We’ve done all of the work for the day and cleaned up, but maybe we can find you some around the office building”
The Grass Bud employee and the DOA agent met at an undisclosed location where the agent was surprised to see two trash bags of the goods weighing almost two pounds. The agent paid $420 for the two bags and signaled for the arrest to happen.
After being detained the employee bluntly exclaimed that he didn’t do anything wrong.
The uniformed agents opened the bags and discovered they had purchased weeds and grass clippings.
The agents were not able to recover the $420 in cash because the transaction was completely legal. The DOA issued a public apology to Grass Bud but stressed that mistakes like this are not chronic issues. The agency plans to use a joint task force in the future to prevent issues.
