A document left behind in a local diner shows plans to extend Highway 54 through the city. According to the document economist have determined Highway 54 is a fast growing corridor despite the current business restrictions.

To take advantage of the “54 boom” officials with the Bureau of Underutilized Metropolitan Sectors have decided to reroute Highway 54 through town and through areas where businesses are shuttering.

No new roads will be built or changed. Instead the plan calls for renaming portions of Breckenridge, 2nd, Triplett, J.R. Miller, Frederica, Southtown and Carter to Highway 54. The new street signage is expected to come in well below the $6.3 million budget.
